No. 14 Bentley Improves to 2-0 With 18-10 Win over Molloy

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 14 ranked Bentley improved to 2-0 on the season with an 18-10 victory over Molloy College on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Maeve Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) led the Falcons attack with four goals, while grad student Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) and sophomore Caroline Affolter (Newburyport, Mass./Central Catholic) each had three goals.

Junior goalie Maya Rose (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) made 14 saves on 24 shots faced to earn her second straight win.

Affolter and McCarthy led the way in draw controls with six and five, respectively, and Bentley won 16 draws as a team.

The Falcons led 9-5 at halftime after Affolter scored a man-up goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the half.

That was the first of three straight man-up goals for Bentley. They began the second half with two straight on the man-advantage, with Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzlerand) and McCarthy scoring to open up a 12-5 lead.

Molloy climbed back in the game with a 3-0 run at the end of the 3rd quarter and start of the 4th quarter to get to within 14-9. But Bentley then went on a 3-0 run of its own that took less than a minute.

Affolter scorer her third of the day, with McCarthy on the assist, at the 13:13 mark. McCarthy then scored two straight free-position goals to give them a 17-9 lead.

Molloy's Amanda Weber netted her sixth goal of the day at 10:16 to break the run. Johnson then scored her fourth of the afternoon with 3:21 left on the clock to finish out the scoring.

The Falcons will next be in action on Saturday when they visit Mercy.
