No. 15 Bentley Uses Stout Defense to Defeat No. 20 Saint Anselm 9-7

Waltham, Mass. – The No. 15 ranked Bentley women's lacrosse team used a stout defensive effort to defeat No. 20 Saint Anselm on Tuesday night.

The Falcons caused 14 turnovers and forced Saint Anselm into 21 total turnovers on the night. Sydney Lynch (Bedford, N.H./Bedford), Dana Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Caroline Affolter (Newburyport, Mass./Central Catholic) each had two to lead the team.

Senior attacker Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) four goals, and senior Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzerland) had two goals and two assists to lead the offense.

Glavin finished the night with 137 career goals, which has her tied for 5th all-time in program history.

Bentley started out strong and led 5-0 after 15 minutes. Glavin's 3rd goal of the half with 9:54 remaining gave them a 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile the Bentley defense nearly shutout the Hawks for the entire first half, until attacker Caroline Villareal scored a man-up goal with 57 seconds left before halftime.

Affolter scored at the 22:17 mark of the 2nd half to give Bentley a 7-2 lead. But after that goal they endured a nearly 15 minute scoring drought that allowed the Hawks to get back in the game. The visitors scored three times to cut the deficit to 7-4 with 11:07 left.

Lynch, however, netted a man-up goal for Bentley with Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) on the assist with 7:51 remaining to make it an 8-5 game.

Saint Anselm got back to within 8-6 with a goal by midfielder Lexi Palmisano. But Glavin's 4th goal of the game with 3:26 left put the Falcons back up by three, and they closed out the game the rest of the way.

Bentley goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 9 saves to earn the win, the 30th of her career.

The Falcons are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's.
