No. 13 Bentley’s Comeback Attempt Falls Just Short in 12-11 Setback to No. 21 Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. – Bentley's comeback attempt in the final minutes fell just short as Saint Anselm held on for a 12-11 victory on Tuesday night to snap the 13th ranked Falcons' three game winning streak.

Bentley trailed the matchup of top-25 ranked teams 12-9 with 2:49 left after Saint Anselm's Caroline Villareal scored a man-up goal.

Bentley's Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) won the ensuring draw control to give them possession. McCarthy then scored after recovering a blocked shot to make it a 12-10 game with 1:47 left.

McCarthy won the draw control again and scored again herself after taking a feed from freshman Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) to make it 12-11 with 1:26 to go.

Saint Anselm was able to win the next draw control and took a timeout with 1:22 left with the ball in its end of the field. Bentley's Christine Fish (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) though came up caused turnover and ground ball to give Bentley the ball back with 1:00 left.

The Falcons took a timeout after clearing the ball into their zone. But they weren't able to convert on the possession and after Saint Anselm won the battle for the loose ball, they were able to run out the clock to secure the win.

McCarthy scored a game high four goals with three in the second half. Senior Kerry Zachman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) led Bentley with four caused turnovers and McCarthy had a team high six draw controls

Saint Anselm's Jess Sullivan and Jenna Balboni each had three goals to lead the Hawks' offense.

The Falcons fell to 5-2 on the season, while Saint Anselm improved to 5-0.

Bentley will look to bounce back on Thursday when they visit Saint Michael's.
