No. 15 Assumption Edges No. 14 Bentley 8-5

Waltham, Mass. – A matchup of two programs ranked in the top 15 in Division II was a tight affair, but in the end No. 15 ranked Assumption slipped past No. 14 ranked Bentley University 8-5 on Monday afternoon.

Falcons' graduate student goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 17 saves against 25 shots faced for a 68 percent save percentage. Her counterpart, Assumption's Allie Collins, made 10 saves against 15 shots faced.

Bentley's Christine Fish (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) scored with 8:47 left in the game to cut the team's deficit to 7-4. But Assumption was able to prevent them from getting any closer. Collins came up with saves on two Bentley possessions that followed to keep the Greyhounds' three goal lead intact.

Assumption then went back ahead by four goals with 3:25 remaining when midfielder Allison Foley scored.

Bentley's Kenzie Lupton (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) scored a man-up goal with 1:44 remaining to make it an 8-5 game. But Collins came up with another save on a Bentley free-position shot, and Assumption was able to drain the remaining time left on the clock to secure the win.

Assumption built a 5-1 lead over the first 18-plus minutes of the 1st half. After a stretch of eight minutes when neither team scored, Bentley scored twice 37 seconds apart. Senior Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) scored on a free-position shot at the 4:10 mark, followed by freshman Courtney Dermody (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scoring, with Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) on the assist.

That got the Falcons to within 5-3 at the end of the half.

Bresler, Hannah Aronowitz (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and Fish led Bentley with two caused turnovers each on the day.

Bentley (2-1, 1-1 NE10) is next scheduled to play on Wednesday at Franklin Pierce.
