Late Goal Seals Bentley’s 10-8 Win over NYIT

Old Westbury, N.Y. – A man-up goal by sophomore Kayli Keenan (Pelham, N.H./Bishop Guertin) with 1:56 left in the game sealed a 10-8 victory for the 17th ranked Bentley women's lacrosse team over 21st ranked NYIT on Tuesday.

Bentley (2-1) was ahead 9-8 entering the final five minutes, and Keenan's goal, assisted by Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzerland) made it a two goal game.

Falcons goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made a save on NYIT's next possession with 55 seconds left, and Bentley saw out the remaining time to secure the win.

The game was tied 5-5 at halftime, but Bentley surged ahead with a 3-0 run to start the second half. All three goals were scored by sophomore Christine Fish (Slingerlands, N.Y./Slingerlands). The first two came on a free-position shot, and the third goal was unassisted at the 23:23 mark to give Bentley an 8-5 lead.

NYIT chipped away with two straight goals but it took them almost nine minutes to do it. The second goal by Shannon Donovan on a free-position shot made it an 8-7 game with 14:45 left.

Just over a minute later, Heller scored for Bentley to restore its two goal lead. The next goal didn't come for eight-plus minutes, which was a free-position goal by the Bears' Caitlin Costello.
