Hat Tricks by Lindgren, Shuman Help Bentley Top Franklin Pierce 10-8

RINDGE, N.H. – Hat tricks by seniors Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) and Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North), plus 10 saves from goalie Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit), helped the Bentley women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 road victory over Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night.

Bentley got started quickly with a goal by Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) just 49 seconds into the contest. That was part of a first half where they led 5-2 at halftime, and put the clamps on FPU defensively, as they allowed just seven shots on goal.

After Gillespie's opening goal, the teams alternated goals. But after the Ravens tied the game 2-2, Bentley went on a 4-0 run to gain separation. They scored the final three goals of the first half. Two came from Lindgren, at 15:48 and 9:34, and MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) at 3:58.

Shuman scored the first goal of the second half just 37 seconds in to give Bentley a 6-2 lead.

After a Franklin Pierce goal by Julia Miller, and Lindgren's third goal of the game to make it 7-3 for Bentley, the Ravens scored three of the game's next four goals to cut into Bentley's lead at 8-6.

Shuman scored again at 6:42 for her third of the night, but just 13 seconds later FPU responded with a goal from Briana Sweeney to make it a 9-7 game. However, Bentley got the all-important next goal, a man-up tally from senior Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) with 2:13 remaining.

The victory is the second straight for the Falcons, and it got their NE10 record back to .500 at 5-5. They'll go for three in a row on Saturday when they host Merrimack at 1:00 pm.
