No. 18 Bentley Rides Ochs, Clutch Goals to 10-8 Win over AIC

WALTHAM, Mass. – 18th ranked Bentley rode a strong performance by junior goalkeeper Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) and late goals by Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) to a 10-8 victory over American International on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Bentley led 6-2 at halftime behind Ochs' 8 saves, but AIC chipped away in the 2nd half and got to within a single goal on two occasions late in the game at 8-7 and 9-8. However, Hart scored with 7:16 left to give Bentley a 9-7 lead. After an AIC goal with 4:10 remaining, the 5th of the day by Stephanie Dufrense, Bentley was able to drain the remaining time and saw Gillespie's goal with three ticks left seal the deal.

Ochs finished the day with 12 saves, while Gillespie had a hat trick and Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) had three points as well to lead the offense. The win is the 2nd straight for the Falcons, who improve to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the NE-10. The Yellow Jackets drop to records of 6-3 and 3-2.

Bentley led 6-2 at halftime with a strong defensive effort that was led by Ochs, who didn't allow a goal for almost 25 minutes as the team led 4-0 late in the first half.

Junior attack Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) had two man-up goals to lead the offense the in opening half, including one just 43 seconds into the game. After AIC finally broke through with a free position man-up goal to cut the deficit to 4-1 with 5:21 left in the half, Bentley received goals from Howard and Morley late on to lead 6-2 at the break.

The Falcons will look to make it three straight wins when they travel to Southern Connecticut Tuesday night.
