Bentley Prepares to Battle Stonehill Wednesday in Northeast-10 Quarters

WALTHAM, Mass. – Rivals Bentley and Stonehill are set to go at it Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Northeast-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship. Bentley (9-4 NE-10) enters as the No. 5 seed, while the Skyhawks (10-3 NE-10) are the No. 4 seed.

Both teams enter the postseason ranked in the top-20 nationally by the IWLCA. Bentley comes in at No. 19, where they have been ranked the last three weeks, while Stonehill is No. 7.

The Falcons are red hot entering Wednesday's game with six wins in their last seven games. They ended the regular season last week with convincing wins over Franklin Pierce (20-11) and Merrimack (17-3). They had a four game winning streak from March 31-April 11, and the only blemish in the last seven contests was a 15-11 setback to top-10 ranked New Haven.

Stonehill, which defeated Bentley 15-8 in an early season game down in Florida on March 10, knocked off LIU Post 8-7 in a non-conference game to close out the regular season. Prior to that though, the Skyhawks had dropped three of their last four games.

Bentley's offensive attack in the regular season was led by senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield), who tallied her 40th goal of the season on Saturday against Merrimack. Behind her, three others netted at least 21 goals; juniors Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow)  and Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and sophomore Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin). Sophomore Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam), with 16 assists, and Howard with 14 were the team's top playmakers in the regular season.

Stonehill meanwhile, has been led on offense by a trio of seniors in attackers Brooke Rudden and Cassandra McGill and midfielder Lizzie Lane. Rudden is one of the top playmakers in the NE-10 with 42 assists, while McGill tallied 29 goals and 18 assists and Lane netted 35 goals. Stonehill's other top offensive threat is sophomore Elizabeth Vetter, with 33 goals.

Both teams feature goalies that have played every minute between the pipes this season. Bentley's Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) is in the top-five of the NE-10 in saves (137) and save percentage (.457), while claiming a 10-5 record. Stonehill's Ashley Armstrong boasts the fifth best goals against average in the conference at 7.54.

Wednesday's game will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools, which are separated by about 34 miles. It will be the fourth postseason meeting, and first since they played in the 2007 NE-10 championship game.

The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal will move on to the semifinals on Saturday to meet either No. 1 seed Adelphi or No. 8 seed Saint Michael's. The other quarterfinal matchups are No. 2 seed Le Moyne against No. 7 Assumption and No. 3 seed New Haven against No. 6 seed Saint Anselm.
