No. 12 Bentley Rolls to 5th Straight, 19-10 over Merrimack on Senior Night

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) combined for nine goals on Senior Night as No. 12 Bentley University rolled to its fifth straight win, 19-10 over Merrimack in Northeast-10 action.

Geiger had five goals and Bastien went for four, both season highs, as Bentley just missed scoring at least 20 goals as a team for the third straight game. Another senior, Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), reached 200 career points with a goal and three assists.

Bentley jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 10 minutes on a cold and rainy night in Waltham. Senior attack Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./Wheeler School) scored first 5:05 in. Geiger followed with her first goal 1:07 later, and Bastien followed that with two straight goals. Freshman Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) had the fifth goal of the run.

A Merrimack goal by Jenn Pino, one of her four, got them on the board at the 16:17 mark, but Bentley would score three of the next four goals to lead 8-2 with 8:17 left in the half. Geiger had two goals during the spurt.

The teams then alternated the next six goals before halftime, making the score 11-5 for Bentley at the break.

The Falcons opened the second half by scoring four of the first five goals to take a commanding 15-6 lead at the 20:50 mark. Bastien, Geiger, junior Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) and freshman Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) had the goals.

Bentley then closed out the victory over the final 20+ minutes, with Wiggins getting her 200th point on a goal at the 15:20 mark.

The win improves Bentley's record to 11-4 on the season and 9-2 in the NE-10, and the loss drops Merrimack to records of 4-11 and 3-8.

Bentley's final two games of the regular season are on the road, starting with Friday night at Adelphi.
