Women’s Lacrosse Announces 2013 Freshman Class

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University head women's lacrosse coach Carissa Medeiros has revealed her program's incoming freshman class, which will debut in the 2013 season. The class consists of seven student-athletes from the East Coast and one transfer student.

Joining the program in the fall as freshmen are Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), Morgan Livezey (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee), Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Brianna Whelan (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) and Caitlin White (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit). Paige Burns (Hingham, Mass./Franklin & Marshall) will come in as a transfer.

"This incoming class is composed of very strong players from up and down the East Coast, and they are sure to make a strong impact on the program from the moment they step on campus," said Medeiros.

Cerny was a 2011 and 2012 US Lacrosse Academic All-American, and she comes from a Our Lady of Good Counsel program in Maryland that is among the top high school women's lacrosse program's in the nation. As a two-year starter, she helped Good Counsel to a conference title in 2011 and a runner-up finish in 2012. She amassed 53 points as a senior on 25 goals and 28 assists and was named second team All-Conference as an attacker.

Hart was a three-year starter and senior captain at Fairport High, earning a second team All-County selection as a junior. A defensive midfielder, she was a three-time New York State Scholar Athlete and represented Western New York at the US Lacrosse National Tournament.

Howard comes in as a midfielder after helping Scarborough High to three consecutive Maine state championships from 2010-2012. She was a 2011 US Lacrosse All-American and a 2012 honorable mention. In addition to those honors, Howard was both a first team All-State and All-Conference selection in 2011 and 2012, while serving as Scarborough's team captain those seasons.

Livezey, an attacker, racked up 135 career points during her four years at Washington-Lee, the last three spent as a starter. She was a first team All-District choice as a junior and senior. Additionally, Livezey was named Washington-Lee's class Valedictorian.

A midfielder, O'Connor helped Longmeadow to three straight Western Mass., titles from 2009-11, and Division I state runner-up finishes those same years. As a senior, she scored 22 goals and dished out 11 assists.

Whelan is a goalie and was a four-year starter at Bethpage High where she averaged 12.4 saves per game during her career. She was named All-County as a senior in 2012 and was a tri-captain. As a junior she was an All-County honorable mention in 2011.

White captained Irondequoit High as a senior and earned All-Conference honors her sophomore season. She was among the team leaders in goals, assists and ground balls as a junior and senior while taking on a defensive role. But Medeiros envisions using her dodging abilities and athleticism in the midfield.

Lastly, Burns comes in as a transfer from Franklin & Marshall College where she played for one season. She played for Hingham High where she was a four-year starter, and was team captain and leading scorer as a senior. In both her junior and senior years, she was named a Patriot League All-Star, Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic and was an Eastern Mass., Coaches Award honorable mention.

These eight will join a team that went 13-6 overall last season, advanced to the Northeast-10 semifinals and finished the year ranked ninth by the IWLCA.
