No. 10 Bentley Rolls Past Franklin Pierce 20-5 in Regular Season Finale

WALTHAM, Mass. – On Senior Night the Bentley women's lacrosse team posted its largest margin of victory of the season with a 20-5 win over Franklin Pierce Thursday night in a Northeast-10 encounter.

The Falcons, who finish the regular season at 12-5 overall and 9-3 in NE-10, will be the fourth-seed in the NE-10 playoffs and will host a first round game next Wednesday night against a yet to be determined opponent.

Bentley, which will go into the postseason hot with seven wins in its last eight games, finishes the regular season with the second most wins in program history. Only the 2000 team, which went 13-3, has more.

12 different players scored for Bentley on this night, led by senior Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), who had a season-high five. Junior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), who entered the game second in the NE-10 in assists with 34, added to that total by matching her season-best with five.

Five different players also netted their first goals of the season, including senior Maureen Fields (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield). Sophomore Stephanie Haftel (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) and freshmen Brenna Lowe (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), Jessica Ferrigno (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and Mikaela Donovan (Nahant, Mass./St. Mary's) each struck for the first time this season as well.

Franklin Pierce was within 7-4 with 10:30 left in the first half after two straight goals, but Bentley scored the final three of the half, with the last two from Wiggins, to lead 10-4 at halftime.

They opened the game up in the first 10-plus minutes of the second half with six goals in that span to lead 16-4. They scored four more in a row over the next 18 minutes, and combined with the three straight to end the first half, ripped off 13 straight goals.

Prior to the game, Fields, Kate Poznick (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg), who started in goal and earned the win, Lauren Canepa (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), Stephanie LaRocca (San Jose, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) and Wiggins were honored prior to the game during the senior ceremonies.

Bentley will find out its opponent for the first round of the playoffs on Saturday when the regular season concludes.
