No. 8 Bentley Hangs On Late to Top Queens (N.Y.) 9-8

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Bentley University withstood a furious second half rally from Queens (N.Y.) to hang on for a 9-8 victory, the Falcons' fifth straight, on Sunday in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest.

In a low scoring affair, Bentley, playing its second game in as many days, shut the Knights out for the first 44 minutes and led 6-0 backed by the efforts in goal by sophomore Ally Dorman (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury), who made 17 saves overall and 11 in the first half.

Queens though finally got on the scoreboard with 15:46 left in the game, but Bentley scored three more times in the next six-and-a-half minutes, with another Knights goal thrown in, to lead take a seemingly comfortable lead at 9-2 with 8:58 to play.

But that was Bentley's last goal. Junior Melissa Montreuil started the Knights' rally with a goal 54 seconds later. They got to within 9-6 after the second of two straight by senior Meghan Monahan with 3:23 remaining.

Montreuil scored again with 2:17 left, and Kayleen Kelty trimmed the lead to 9-8 with 58 seconds to go. Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) though won the ensuing draw control for Bentley, and they were able to keep possession until a turnover with three seconds left to hang on for the victory.

The Falcons led 3-0 after the first 30 minutes on goals by Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and two by sophomore Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield). Junior Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) netted the first two goals of the second half, and junior Margeaux Guercia (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) made it 6-0 with 17:04 left in the game.

Bentley's winning streak is its longest since the 2010 season when they won six in a row. They'll have to wait until next Saturday to try to match that, when they host No. 2 Adelphi at 11:00 a.m.
