Late Surge Pushes No. 8 Bentley Past No. 7 New Haven 13-11

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 8 Bentley scored four times in a span of 2:30 late in the game to come away with a 13-11 victory over No. 7 New Haven in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied 9-9 after New Haven's Alexis Gabbe scored a man-up goal on a free-position shot with 9:20 left in the game, Bentley scored the next four goals to pull away. Junior attack Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) scored two straight during the run and assisted on another.

Sophomore Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) gave the Falcons a 10-9 lead with 4:38 to go. That's when Geiger, who had been held goal less all afternoon, went to work. She scored Bentley's next two goals, starting with one at the 3:27 mark with Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) on the assist.

Exactly one minute later Geiger netted an unassisted goal to make the score 12-9 for Bentley, and just 29 seconds later assisted on Megan Wiggins' (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) goal to give the Falcons a four goal cushion with just over two minutes to play.

The win improves Bentley's record to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the NE-10, while New Haven's seven game winning streak goes by the boards, dropping its records to 8-2 and 3-2.

A back-and-forth first half ended with the score tied at five. The biggest lead of the half was 5-3 for Bentley at the 10:34 mark after a Margeaux Guercia (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) goal.

With the score tied at six early in the second half, a goal by sophomore Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) started a 3-0 run for the Falcons that gave them a 9-6 advantage with 15:54 remaining. Bastien and Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) had the other two goals during the run.

But New Haven climbed back in the game and tied it at nine with a 3-0 run of its own over a span of about three minutes.

The Falcons, now winners of two straight, are at Merrimack on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. game.
