No. 8 Bentley Hangs Tough, but Falls to No. 1 Le Moyne 12-4

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Playing its second game in as many days, No. 8 Bentley hung tough with the No. 1 ranked team in Division II Le Moyne, but seven goals from senior Brittany Brigandi pushed the Dolphins to a 12-4 victory on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse play.

Le Moyne, which was also playing for the second straight day after squeezing past Merrimack 8-7 on Saturday, remains unbeaten at 8-0 and 5-0 in the NE-10. The Falcons drop to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Shots were at a premium in this game as Le Moyne only out shot Bentley 23-11, but the Dolphins made the most of their chances and the Falcons were unable to contain Brigandi. The second leading goal scorer in the NE-10 scored on seven of her 11 shots and upped her total to 35 goals on the season.

Junior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) gave Bentley an early lead 2:53 in, but that was its only goal of the half. The Falcons kept the hosts off the scoreboard for almost nine minutes until Brigandi scored to tie the game.

Another six minutes passed until another goal was scored, but it was Brigandi giving Le Moyne a lead they wouldn't relinquish at the 15:45 mark. That started a key stretch by the Dolphins where they scored four times in about four minutes to take a 5-1 lead. Sophomore Kathleen Conese scored twice in 39 seconds, and Brigandi found the back of the net again with 11:18 left in the half. She netted the final goal of the half with 3:41 to go to give Le Moyne at 6-1 advantage at the break.

Brigandi opened the second half scoring with her fifth of the afternoon 51 seconds in. Bastien answered back for Bentley shortly thereafter to make the score 7-2, but by the time Brigandi had scored her seventh of the game with 13:23 remaining, the Dolphins were up 10-2.

Bastien scored another with 11:26 left to complete the hat trick.

The Falcons are back in action Wednesday afternoon at Saint Michael's for a 4:30 p.m. start.
