WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 8 Bentley outscored AIC 8-1 over the final 12-plus minutes to pull away and post a 20-10 win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action.

Bentley was in control at halftime, leading 8-3 after junior Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) scored right before the buzzer.

The first 15-plus minutes of the second half was a different story, however. AIC climbed back into the game by scoring six of the half's first 10 goals to get to within 12-9 at the 14:24 mark after the second of two straight by senior Ashley Szawlowski.

But that's as close as the Yellow Jackets would get. The Falcons reeled off seven straight goals, beginning with one by Lauren Canepa (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) with 12:12 to play, to put the game away. Senior Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) had the next goal, one of her game-high four, to make the score 14-9. Junior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) netted two in a row after that, and two straight by Carney preceded the first career goal for freshman Jenna McPhail (Hamden, Conn./Hamden).

It was all Bentley in the first half. They led 7-0 with 17 minutes gone as Wiggins, sophomore Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) and junior Margeaux Guercia (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) each had two goals. AIC got on the board on a free-position shot by senior Courtney Szawlowski with 12:13 left in the half. That gave the Yellow Jackets some momentum and they scored two more in a row before Carney's goal to close out the half.

The Falcons are now 5-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in the NE-10. AIC drops to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Bentley is right back in action tomorrow when they head back to Syracuse, N.Y. to battle No. 1 Le Moyne. That game is the makeup of a game from March 9 that was started, but postponed due to snow.
