Falcons Spread Offense Around in 14-6 Victory over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley University had seven different goal scorers, led by freshman Chelsea Larivee's (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) four goals, in its 14-6 Northeast-10 win over American International Thursday afternoon.

Junior Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) had a hat trick and sophomores Margeaux Guercia (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) and Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) had two goals apiece in the win. Geiger added two assists, giving her 100 points for her career in just 25 games.

AIC scored the first goal of the game, 6:15 in from junior attack Ashleigh Szawlowski, but Bentley shut them out the rest of the half and scored seven straight.

After Szawlowksi's goal, Wiggins and freshman Gillian Paradis (Mendham, N.J./Burr & Burton Academy) scored just 13 seconds apart to give Bentley the lead for good. Almost seven minutes elapsed before another goal was scored, but freshman Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) broke the dry spell with 13:27 remaining in the half.

Goals by Geiger and Larivee gave Bentley a 5-1 lead with 6:26 left in the first half, and Guercia scored twice in 25 seconds as the half wound down to make the score 7-1 at the break.

The Yellow Jackets scored four of the first six goals in the second half to get to within 10-5 with 16:41 remaining in the game. But Bentley put the clamps on after that, allowing just one more goal the rest of the game to pull away. Larivee scored the team's final three of the afternoon.

Junior goalie Kate Poznick (Fitchburg, Mass./St. Bernard's) played the first half and made three saves for the win, while freshman Ally Dorman (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the second 30 minutes and stopped seven shots.

The Falcons improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the NE-10, and AIC's overall record evens to .500 at 4-4 and goes to 1-4 in the conference.

Bentley's next game is Sunday afternoon when they visit fifth-ranked C.W. Post for a 12:00 p.m. game.
