WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior midfielder Mia Valletta scored five goals to pace the Le Moyne offense as the sixth-ranked Dolphins topped the Bentley University women's lacrosse team 15-6 in the Falcons' season-opening game Sunday afternoon.

Junior Brittany Brigandi and senior Leah Lazarz each had two goals for the Dolphins, while sophomore Brenna Bauer had a game-high three assists. Junior Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) led the Bentley offense with two goals and one assist.

Le Moyne scored the game's first 10 goals before the Falcons got on the scoreboard with 7:41 left in the first half. Valletta had three of her goals in the first 19 minutes of play.

Sophomore Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) and freshman Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) had first half goals for Bentley to make it 10-2 at halftime.

Le Moyne scored the first two goals of the second half to lead 12-2 ten minutes in, before two goals by Wiggins and a goal by Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) sandwiched a Lazarz goal, cutting Bentley's deficit to 12-4 and 13-5, the closest they got the rest of the way.

Junior goalie Kelly Fucillo made 11 saves to earn the win for Le Moyne

The Dolphins improve to 2-0 and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 in their inaugural Division II season , while Bentley falls to 0-1. Bentley's next game is Tuesday afternoon at home against Bloomsburg at 4:00 p.m.
