Obar & DuCharme Shine as No. 16 Bentley Wins at Adelphi, 59-42

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Senior guard Brooke Obar (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely HS) buried a career-high six three-pointers for 18 points and junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington, Mass./ Wilmington HS) had a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double as Bentley University prevailed at Adelphi University, 59-42, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Bentley, ranked 16th in the latest WBCA Division II national rankings, improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast-10. Adelphi, following its fourth consecutive loss, fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 conference.

Bentley dominated the opening quarter, building a 21-6 lead after closing with a 17-0 run over the final seven minutes. DuCharme, junior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and sophomore forward Mikela Cooper (Surprise, Ariz./Valley Vista HS) each had four points during that lengthy stretch with a total of five Falcons contributing points. Meanwhile, the Panthers were scoreless on a dozen consecutive possessions.

Adelphi came alive in the second, outscoring the Falcons 16-9 to draw within eight points. Ten of the Panther points came off a half-dozen Bentley turnovers.

Points were at a premium for both teams in the third, until Obar buried three treys in a span of about 70 seconds to make it 44-27 with 1:50 left in the stanza. She hit one from the right corner, the next from the right wing and the third was also from the right side.

In the fourth, Adelphi pulled within ten with 5:15 to play, but Bentley closed with a 9-2 burst, a run that was again fueled by the long ball. Obar dropped one in from the right side, graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) connected from the left side and DuCharme completed the game's scoring with 1:36 to play, a triple from the top of the key. Obar's was her fifth of the second half.

Obar, whose previous career bests (14 points, 4 three-pointers) came at Adelphi last February, did all of her scoring from downtown as she sank six of nine from outside the arc. DuCharme also had success from deep, hitting three of five. She tied her career-high in rebounds and also had three assists, three steals and a team-best +30.

Kabantu added nine points on 4-for-5 shooting and Thompson, in her first game since joining the 1,000-point club, netted seven.

Adelphi's only double-figure scorer was junior guard Rolanda Robinson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Bentley's .375 shooting percentage included 11 of 26 from three. At the other end of the court, Adelphi was limited to .309 overall, only four three-pointers and just four of 11 at the foul line.

The Falcons dominated the boards, 44-29, and withstood 18 turnovers that led to 24 Panther points.

Bentley's next game is Wednesday at Southern New Hampshire University, the first match-up of the two programs since the 2023 Northeast-10 championship.
