14 Rebounds by DuCharme Helps No. 23 Bentley Down Pace, 55-42

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington HS) collected a career-high 14 rebounds in only 15 minutes and Bentley University created separation with a 15-0 run to end the second quarter as the Falcons downed Pace University 55-42 in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Tuesday night at the Goldstein Athletic Center.

Bentley, ranked 23rd in this week's D2SIDA Media Poll, improved to 6-2 overall and remained unbeaten in the NE10 (4-0). Following its sixth consecutive loss, Pace fell to 1-7 overall and 0-4 conference.

With the game even at 11 with just over three minutes gone in the second quarter, Bentley took control of the game by scoring the final 15 points of the half. Sophomore guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) scored the first two buckets, freshman guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy) sank her tenth three-pointer of the season, and senior post Bri Gillen (Lakeville, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) netted an inside basket to make it 20-11.

The run continued with two free throws by Kabantu, a drive for two by freshman post Julia Elie (Rockland, Mass./Rockland HS)  and junior guard Janessa Gonzalez (Meriden, Conn./St. Paul Catholic HS) had a driving lay-up, sending Bentley into the half up 26-11.

Bentley outscored the Setters 18-10 in the third, extending the advantage to 23 points, 44-21. The differential peaked at 26, 49-23, when Elie scored with 7:18 remaining.

On a night that saw no Falcon play more than 23 minutes, Bentley spread the scoring around with no one scoring in doubles. Kabantu, graduate guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) and Elie all finished with eight points. Gonzalez followed with seven and junior guard Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) added six.

Gillen blocked three shots and both Yeomans and Kabantu had two steals.

Junior guard Shanice Sinclair (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led Pace with 15 points, including seven in the fourth, and nine rebounds.

Neither team shot well with Bentley finishing at .317 and Pace just .288, including 10 of 45 in the first three quarters. The Falcons controlled the boards, 51-40, and outscored the home team from the line, 11-2.

15 offensive rebounds, including five by Ducharme, resulted in a 20-5 advantage in second-chance points for Bentley, and bench points were all Falcons, 25-0.

Bentley will return home to host Adelphi University Saturday at 1:30 pm. Before the game, at approximately 1:15, retired head coach Barbara Stevens will be honored for her 2021 induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
