Bentley Visits Assumption Wednesday for 4th Game in 7 Days

WALTHAM, Mass. – A busy stretch for the Bentley University women's basketball team will continue Wednesday night when the Falcons play at Assumption University. Game time at the Laska Gymnasium in Worcester is 5:30 pm.

The game will be streamed at the following site: https://www.youtube.com/c/AssumptionUniversityAthletics/featured. It will not be available on NE10 NOW.

Bentley, which will be playing for the fourth time in seven days, remains tied with Southern New Hampshire for first in the Northeast-10's Northeast Division with three to play. If they remain even, SNHU will gain the top seed by virtue of sweeping the regular season series.

The Falcons improved to 14-6 overall and 12-4 conference with an 80-61 win over the University of New Haven Monday night. It was an impressive offensive performance with Bentley shooting .500 or better for the sixth time and making 12 of 23 from three, including a school record 5-for-5 from senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS).

Brekke has been on a strong run of late, sinking 15 of 26 from behind the arc in the last six games. She leads the NE10 in three-point accuracy (.465) and is averaging 10.8 points a game.

The top two scorers for coach C White's club are graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School) and junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS). Ceppi has the slight edge with her 13.7 norm a tenth-of-a-point better than Thompson.

Rounding out Bentley's starting lineup are sophomore Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and freshman Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS). Whitmore averages 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds, and Kabantu follows at 7.1 points.

Bentley leads the Northeast-10 in field goal percentage (.440), is second in scoring (69.8) and third in scoring defense (58.1).

Assumption has dropped two in a row, home games against Saint Anselm and Stonehill, to fall to 10-12 overall and 7-10 conference. Strangely enough, the Hounds are 7-5 away from Worcester but only 3-7 at home.

Graduate guard Meghan Cramb has had a solid season for the Hounds, averaging 12.2 points while shooting .405 from three-point territory. Recently, senior guard Ja'Lyn Armstrong has had some outstanding games, with 27 at St. Michael's, 21 against Southern New Hampshire and 17 at Saint Anselm.

Thompson shined in the first meeting between the two teams this season, scoring 25 points in a 79-70 Falcon victory. That was the Bentley's 77th win in 87 games all-time against Assumption, including tenth straight.

After facing Assumption, two regular season games remain, at Franklin Pierce Saturday and home against Saint Anselm next Tuesday.
