1st-Place Bentley Hosts Stonehill Thursday in 113rd Edition of Longtime Rivalry

WALTHAM, Mass. – Riding a four-game winning streak in which there have not been a single tie or lead change, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be at home Thursday night for a 5:30 pm encounter with Stonehill College. For those who can't attend, it will be streamed on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, tied for 20th in this week's D2SIDA media poll, will bring records of 11-4 overall and 9-2 Northeast-10 into the 113rd of New England's premier women's basketball rivalry. The Falcons, under the leadership of C White, are first in the conference's Northeast Division, with a lead of a game-and-a-half over Southern New Hampshire.

Stonehill, which has played only once since Jan. 17, is 6-6 overall and 5-5 conference, good for fifth place. Sunday's 72-63 win over Saint Rose was the third  triumph in the last four games for Trisha Brown's club.

Bentley, which will be looking to sweep the regular season series with the Skyhawks for the fourth time in six years, leads the all-time series 74-39 after winning 11 of the last 13 meetings. In the Dana Center, the Falcons have defeated Stonehill six straight times.

In the first meeting this season, Nov. 23 down in Easton, Bentley outscored the home team 42-29 in the second half after trailing by a couple at the break. Five different Falcons put up at least nine points, with graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School) leading the way with 11. Stonehill was held to a season-low point total and shot only .292 overall, including 1 of 25 from three, against the Falcon defense.

Bentley, number one in the NE10 in scoring defense at 55.5, has allowed only 47.6 points and a

.349 field goal percentage in its last five games. On Tuesday at Adelphi, the Falcons gave up only 47 in an 11-point win and forced 23 turnovers, which they converted into 26 points.

The Falcons have three players with double-figure scoring averages, with junior guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) at the top of the list. She scored 17 at Adelphi and has a season norm of 13.8. Ceppi follows at 12.5 and senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) is at 10.2 with a .426 accuracy mark from beyond the three-point line.

Freshman guard Amanda Kamantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) has averaged 13 points in the last four games, raising her season mark to 7.0, and has made 20 of 28 shot attempts during that time. That same stretch has seen sophomore guard Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) averaged 10.8 points on 19-35 shooting and 5.3 rebounds.

Stonehill features the senior duo of Kayla Raymond and Emily Bramanti, two of the conference's top eight scorers. Raymond averages 17.0 points and 7.1 rebounds, and Bramanti follows at 16.2 and 6.1. Combined, they've accounted for two-thirds of the Skyhawks' three-pointers.

Bentley's third game in five days will be Saturday when the Falcons are at St. Michael's.
