Bentley Resumes Northeast-10 Schedule Saturday at Southern Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team will be looking to boost its Northeast-10 Conference record to a Northeast Division-leading 5-1 when Saturday when it plays at Southern Connecticut State. Game time at the Moore Field House is 1:30 pm.

No fans will be allowed at the game, but it can be viewed on the NE10 NOW digital network (https://portal.stretchinternet.com/bentley/).

C White's Falcons will travel to Southern with a 6-3 overall record following a 72-59 non-conference victory over MIT on Dec. 30. It'll be the team's first NE10 contest since a 65-53 loss at Southern New Hampshire a month ago.

Southern Connecticut will be looking to end a three-game slide that has dropped the Owls to 6-5 overall and 3-2 NE10. The losses have come at the hands of Jefferson University (62-54), Pace University (67-49) and most recently, on Wednesday, Adelphi University (75-70).

So far this season, Bentley has been significantly better offensively in its wins. The Falcons have averaged 76.2 points, shot 47 percent and made 6.8 three-pointers per game in the six wins. In contrast, those numbers have been just 51.7 points, .339 shooting accuracy and 4.7 three-balls in the losses.

Three Falcons own double-figure scoring averages with junior guard and 2019 NE10 Rookie of the Year Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) topping the list at 14.0. She's buried 18 three-pointers, has handed out 26 assists and is shooting .897 from the foul stripe.

Next on the list are graduate forward Autumn Ceppi (Bedford/Dana Hall School) and senior guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS). Ceppi, in her first Bentley season after four years at Bucknell, contributes 12.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals a game. Brekke, who scores 11.1 points a game, ranks third in the NE10 in three-point accuracy at .405.

Freshman guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) made the start against MIT and tallied a season-best 12 points. She's averaging 5.3 points and has a .500 field goal percentage.

Southern also has three double-digit scorers with the trio of Jessica Fressle, Delaney Connors and Zoe Amalbert combining for 44 points and 21 rebounds a game. Fressler, a graduate student who produces 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds a game, is one of four NE10 players averaging a double-double.

Connors, a senior guard who transferred from Mt. St. Mary's, erupted for a career-high 29 points against Adelphi, raising her season norm to 14.9.

Bentley owns a six-game winning streak against Southern, including 101-52 in January 2020 in the most recent meeting. That win included 14 points and eight assists from Thompson.

This coming week, Bentley is scheduled to host Le Moyne Tuesday (a change from previously scheduled New Haven) and Pace on Saturday. Last week's game against St. Michael's, rescheduled for Thursday, has since been postponed for a second time.
