Naismith Hall of Famer Stevens Adds NE10 Hall of Fame to Resume

WALTHAM, Mass. – Less than two months after her induction into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was celebrated during Enshrinement Weekend at Mohegan Sun, former Bentley University women's basketball coach Barbara Stevens is among the 2021 honorees for the Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame. The announcement of this year's class was made on Monday

Stevens, Bentley's head coach from 1986-2020, retired from a standout 44-year career last summer with 1,058 victories, a total that ranked fourth most in NCAA women's basketball history at the time.

The last 902 of those wins came during her Bentley tenure, a 34-year run in which Stevens and her Falcon teams enjoyed remarkable success.  Heading that list of achievements was an undefeated NCAA Division II national championship season in 2014.

Bentley, under Stevens' leadership, captured 20 regular season conference titles and earned 17 Northeast-10 tournament championships. She earned 16 NE10 Coach of the Year awards, coached nine conference Players of the Year and had a record of 650-120 in conference action (575-104 regular season, 75-16 tournament).

Her Bentley years also included 31 NCAA Division II tournament berths, 14 NCAA regional titles and 10 final four appearances.

Stevens was the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II national coach of the year an unprecedented five times, most recently in 2014.

Stevens is the eighth member of the Bentley women's basketball program who has been selected for the NE10 Hall of Fame. She joins Lauren Battista '14, Danielle Chaisson 908, Alison (Fay) Casey '84, Kim (Penwell) Seymour '93, Kim (Cummings) Singh '98, Tracey (Seymour) Robidoux '92 and Kelly Barker '00. In addition, the 2014 national championship team was celebrated with Hall of Fame induction.

The NE10 Hall of Fame is the seventh that has called Stevens' name. In addition to the Naismith where she was part of a spectacular 2020 induction class that included Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan, she's a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and the Bentley, Clark University and Bridgewater State halls.
