Le Moyne Uses 15 3-Pointers to Shoot Down No. 19 Bentley, 69-55

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y.) buried seven three-pointers during a 23-point performance and senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y.) followed with 21 points as Le Moyne College led throughout for a 69-55 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Tuesday night at Ted Grant Court.

Bentley, which had won 11 of its previous 12, dropped to 15-5 overall and 10-2 NE10 after being outscored beyond the arc, 45-21. Le Moyne improved to 12-7 overall and 8-4 conference after winning the rematch of last year's NE10 championship game, also a Dolphin victory.

The first half belonged to Le Moyne, which took a 41-30 lead into the break following a bombardment of three-pointers, ten to be exact.

The Dolphins opened the game by hitting their first five shots, all from outside the arc. With Bentley misfiring on their first five shots, that produced a quick 15-0 lead for the home team. Millea opened the scoring with a triple from the top of the key and both sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y.) and senior forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass.) drained two three balls.

Bentley, led by freshman guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) and senior center Monican Viapiano (Holden, Mass./Holy Name HS) with six points apiece in the quarter, drew within six after one, 25-19. However, Le Moyne started the second quarter much the same as they did the first, knocking down four triples to build a 39-27 lead.

After a third period in which the difference ranged from nine to 14, Le Moyne used an 8-0 run early in the fourth to stretch the lead to 17, 61-44. That burst featured two treys from Millea.

Thompson led Bentley with a career-high 18 points. She knocked down four of eight from deep and was 7 of 12 overall.

Viapiano followed with 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals, and graduate forward Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) sank two threes during a 12-point performance.

Le Moyne launched 35 three-pointers while taking only 25 shots inside the arc. The Dolphins shot .400 overall while Bentley finished at 429, including 7 of 23 from three. Rebounds (39-32) and turnovers (11-15) favored the home team, which outscored the Falcons 21-4 in points off and 15-10 in second chance points.

Bentley, which saw its lead in the NE10 Northeast Division drop to a half-game, will host Southwest Division-leading Adelphi on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
