Bentley, Off to a 4-0 Start, Will Take on Assumption Tuesday in Home Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – After playing four straight away from Waltham to open the season, the Bentley University women's basketball team will launch its home schedule Tuesday night with a Northeast-10 Conference encounter with Assumption College.

Tip-off is set for 6 pm and for those who can't attend, the game can be viewed on www.NE10NOW.tv.

Bentley, number eight in Division II preseason, will bring a 4-0 record, including 1-0 in the NE10, into the game following a 91-64 win over Queens College (N.Y.) on Saturday. The Falcons set season-highs for field goal percentage (.583) and three-point accuracy (.500) while topping the 90-point mark for the third time already this season.

Assumption owns records of 2-2 overall and 1-1 NE10 after alternating wins and losses during the first four games. The Greyhounds have defeated Roberts Wesleyan and Merrimack, the latter in overtime, and fallen to Daemen and most recently, Saint Anselm.

Eight different Falcons are averaging at least 7.8 points a game with senior All-Conference center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) at the top of the list. She's scored in the mid-to-high teens in all four games with a high of 19 last Wednesday at Stonehill.

Also in doubles are sophomore guard Katie Meriggioli (Waunakee, Wis./Edgewood HS) and senior guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England), at 12.5 and 12.0, respectively. The two have also combined for 10.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists a game, and both have shot well. Lewis is at .577 overall and four of eight from three while Meriggioli's .548 includes seven of 12 from downtown.

Rounding out the usual starting five for coach Barbara Stevens have been senior guard Amy McConnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) and junior guard Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS), who are both scoring 7.8 a game. Each has made half their threes with Springfield 8 of 16 and McConnell five of ten.

Bentley's 88.0 scoring average is a conference best and the Falcons are also number one in the NE10 in field goal percentage (.476), three-pointers made (9.5), free throws made (20), assists (20.5), scoring margin (+28.8) and rebound margin (+15.8).

Senior forward Morgan O'Donnell leads Assumption with a conference-best 20.8 scoring average. Last Wednesday, she erupted for a school-record 39 points, including 37 after halftime, to power the Greyhounds to an 83-81 overtime win over Merrimack. O'Donnell also had 21 in the opener against Roberts Wesleyan but has totaled 23 points in the team's two losses.

The number two scorer for Assumption has been junior guard Brianna Capacchione with 9.0 per game.

Assumption has struggled shooting the ball thus far (.356 overall, .222 from three) but has countered that by grabbing nearly 15 offensive boards per game, an offensive rebound rate of about 34 percent.

This week's schedule, in addition to Thanksgiving, also includes a Saturday afternoon game at the University of Bridgeport.
