No. 8 Bentley Takes 3-0 Record to Queens for 1st-Ever Regular Season Meeting with Knights

WALTHAM, Mass. – Before finally making its Dana Center debut this coming Tuesday, a fourth straight game away from Waltham, awaits the Bentley University Falcons, the eighth-ranked team in Division II and winners of their first three.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team will be in New York Saturday for a 3 pm encounter with Queens College, the first-ever regular season meeting between the two programs. A webcast will be available at http://queensknights.com/QCSN.

The only previous game between Bentley and Queens came in March 2016 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional. The Falcons used a 30-point fourth-quarter to claim a 77-67 victory en route to a national semifinal appearance.

Bentley is coming off a 70-54 win over No. 19 Stonehill in the NE10 opener for both teams. In a rematch of the 2018 Northeast-10 championship game (won by Bentley in OT), the Falcons limited the Skyhawks to 32 percent shooting, including 2 of 18 from downtown, and finished a plus-11 on the boards.

Stevens' team has won its first three games by an average of 29.3 points while holding the opposition to shooting rates of .342 overall and .259 from three.

Queens, 13-14 last year, is off to a 1-1 start. The Knights opened with an 87-77 win over Chestnut Hill before falling to Jefferson 90-62 last Sunday. Queens shot only 32 percent from the floor and allowed the Rams 22, 21 and 33 points during the first three quarters.

Senior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) is Bentley's top scorer to date with the six-foot-one co-captain averaging 16.3 points. She just missed a double-double against Stonehill, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore guard Katie Meriggioli (Waunakee, Wis./Edgewood HS) and senior six-footer Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) are the team's other double-figure scorers with averages of 12.3 and 12.0, respectively. Meriggioli has made six of ten from three and is averaging 8.3 rebounds, three assists and 2.3 steals. Lewis has also been filling the sheet in a number of categories and a .600 field goal percentage.

Four players averaged in doubles for Queens during the opening weekend with junior guard Beth Bonin (16.0) and senior guard Kaitlyn Mahon (12.5) leading the way. 16 is also what Bonin averaged last winter when she was a first-team All-East Coast Conference honoree.

Tuesday's home opener against Assumption is scheduled for a 6 pm tip.
