Ipswich Chronicle: "Ipswich’s Davis sees college basketball career, captaincy end at Bentley

Joshua Boyd of the Ipswich Chronicle spoke with Bentley women's basketball co-captain Julia Davis following the Falcons' final game of the season.

Julia Davis knows one career is over, but another one she is very excited about is beginning soon.

"I'm focusing on accounting right now, and I'm going to Boston College next year for my Master's in accounting," said Davis, who recently completed a three-year varsity basketball career at Bentley University.

Davis, a former star basketball player at Ipswich High School, joined the Bentley Falcons as a sophomore after not playing as a freshman. But, the 2012-13 Cape Ann League MVP decided to give it the old college try and made the Falcons as a walk-on – on a Falcons team that was defending the 2014 Division 2 National Championship. She played in 12 games as a sophomore, and even earned the Falcons' scholar-athlete award that year.

The next year, Davis and her Falcon teammates made the NCAA Division 2 Final Four. This year, the Falcons made the NCAAs for the 33rd time, a national record for Division 2 women's basketball. Unfortunately for Bentley, the Philadelphia-based pharmaceutical school University of the Sciences ended the Falcons' season in Bentley's first 2017 NCAA game, 73-66.

"It was not the season we wanted. As tough as the last game was, we made a good run for it," said Davis. "USciences shot the ball as best as they have ever have, and we had a little trouble scoring."
