No. 21 Bentley Seeks Win No. 15 in Finale of 3-Game Homestand

WALTHAM, Mass. – Le Moyne College will provide the opposition when the Bentley University women's basketball team, ranked 21st in Division II by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, wraps up a three-game homestand Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center (1:30 pm). A free webcast will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

Bentley has pushed its records to 14-4 overall and 10-1 Northeast-10 Conference with wins over American International (79-70) and Pace (77-51) during its previous two games. With the two victories, the Falcons have maintained their three-game lead in the conference's Northeast Division.

Le Moyne started strong this season, winning six of its first seven, but will come into the Dana Center at 9-8 overall (5-6 NE10) after dropping three straight and seven of ten since Dec. 1. Much of the early success came at home where the Dolphins are 6-3, as compared to 3-5 away from Syracuse.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team captured all four quarters and used runs of 12-0, 12-1, 10-2 and 10-0 in Wednesday's 77-51 win over Pace University, the 971st of her 40-year career. Against the Setters, she witnessed her team post a plus-13 rebounding margin, commit only eight turnovers and hold Pace to 32 percent shooting.

Senior All-America forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy), Bentley's number two all-time scorer (1,882) and number three all-time rebounder (939), put up her 41st career 20-point game Wednesday. She finished with 22 against Pace, including 15 in the third, and came within one rebound of a double-double. Her 18.0 scoring average stands fourth in the NE10 and she's third in the conference in offensive rebounds.

Junior guards Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) and Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) have also been instrumental in the team's success. Green, who drilled five threes against Pace, is averaging a career-best 12.6 points, and Smith (11.5 ppg) leads the team in assists (84) and steals (29). Smith approached a triple-double against the Setters, filling the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Bentley is currently number one in the Northeast-10 in scoring (69.9), as well as field goals (25.2), field goal percentage (.433), defensive rebounds (28.4) and assists (15.6).

Offense has been an issue for Le Moyne for much of the season. The Dolphins have averaged just 56.6 points in their last 11 contests and have made at least 40 percent of their field goal attempts only twice since Thanksgiving.

Guard McKayla Roberts, a five-time selection as NE10 Rookie of the Week, has been one of the conference's top freshmen. She leads the Northeast-10 in assists (5.9) and Le Moyne's top scorer at 12.4. Roberts got off to a fast start to her college career, scoring 16 or more in five of her first six games, including 28 against Pace.

Roberts is followed on the scoring list by junior forward Joanna Drobovosky and senior guard Ailayia Demand. Drobovsky averages 9.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, and Demand is at 9.2 points.

After a five-week span that has seen Bentley play seven of eight at home, the Falcons will travel twice this coming week, for games at Saint Rose Wednesday and Southern Connecticut next Saturday.
