No. 21 Bentley Continues Homestand Wednesday vs. Pace

WALTHAM, Mass. – A three-game homestand for the nationally-ranked Bentley University women's basketball team will continue on Wednesday when the Falcons host Pace University at the Dana Center at 5:30 pm. A free webcast will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

Bentley, coming off a 79-70 win over American International, is 13-4 overall and 9-1 in the Northeast-10, good for a three-game lead in the loss column over Assumption College, Merrimack College and St. Michael's College in the conference's Northeast Division. Coach Barbara Stevens' team, which dropped from 15th to 21st in this week's WBCA Division II coaches' poll, has won eight of its last ten with the two losses decided by a total of three points.

Pace owns a 9-9 overall record, including 3-7 NE10, after snapping a four-game slide on Saturday with a 69-66 win over Stonehill College. The Setters struggled offensively during the losing streak, averaging just 52.3 points on 36 percent shooting, including only 21 percent from three-point land.

Bentley junior point guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School)  is fresh off the two highest scoring games of her career, performances that certainly warranted Player of the Week consideration. She averaged 25 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 45 percent overall and 80 percent from the line. Remarkably, the Falcon point guard turned the ball over only once in 79 minutes of action against the two best teams in the Southwest Division, Adelphi and AIC.

Smith scored a career-best 26 points in the AIC win, bettering by two her previous best set three days earlier. For the season, she's averaging 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

Bentley also received standout performances against AIC from senior All-America forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and junior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard School).

Gemma put up 24 points and 13 rebounds, the double-double elevating her season production to 17.8 points and 7.4 rebounds. Bentley's second all-time leading scorer, she's moved within 70 rebounds of 1,000 career after collecting 31 in her last two games.

Bennett, after hitting only nine three-pointers in the season's first 16 games, was five of seven from downtown against the Yellow Jackets, tying her career-high set against Post back in November 2014. She's averaged 13 points in her last two games, raising her season norm to 5.4.

Coach Barbara Stevens' Bentley team leads the conference in scoring at 69.5 per game. The Falcons are undefeated in the 12 games they've scored at least 61 this season and have won nine of the ten in which they've yielded 60 or less.

Sophomore guard Alexandra Monteleone leads Pace in scoring, averaging 11.8 points with a team-leading 25 three-pointers. She's coming off her third 20-point effort of the year, a season-best 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting in Saturday's won over Stonehill.

Six-foot-five senior Kristen Dodge is a factor inside for the Setters, averaging 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots while playing only about 20 minutes a game. Junior guard Gabriella Rubin averaged 10.7 points in the first ten games, but since she's been out, Pace has won only three of eight games after starting 6-4.

Bentley will wrap up the homestand Saturday against Le Moyne, the Falcons' seventh home game in their last eight.
