No. 11 Bentley Takes 4-0 NE10 Record to Southern New Hampshire Saturday

WALTHAM, Mass. – In the finale of four straight road contests, the Bentley University women's basketball team will look to boost its Northeast-10 Conference record to 5-0 when it faces Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon. Game time at the SNHU Fieldhouse is set for 1:30 pm.

The game will be broadcast both regionally on NESN Plus and nationally on NESN National.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team, number 11 in the latest WBCA Division II coaches poll, will enter the game in sole possession of first in the NE10's Northeast Division following a 67-54 win at Saint Anselm Wednesday. That snapped a two-game slide for the Falcons, who are now 4-0 conference and 5-2 overall.

SNHU has dropped four of its last five after opening the season with two lop-sided wins, and is now 3-4 overall and 0-2 conference.  Most recently, they  fell at Assumption, 66-54, while playing without three key rotation players.

As has been the case most of the season, Bentley was led in Wednesday's Saint Anselm win by the trio of senior All-America forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and junior guards Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) and Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School). The Falcons took control with a 29-8 run over a span of 14 minutes, beginning with four minutes left in the second quarter, and the above trio accounted for 25 of the points.

Gemma, as she's done the last two seasons, leads the Falcons in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.1 points and 6.3 boards. She's currently tied for sixth on the program's all-time scoring list (1,695)and could be fifth by the time the game finishes, needing only seven to pass Kim Cummings '96.

Green, who averages 13 points, is third in the NE10 in three-pointers (23) after knocking down 8 of 16 the last two games. Smith has raised her scoring output to 11.1 after averaging 13 in the last five games, and also provides 4.4 rebounds and four helpers per contests. She's made 21 of 38 inside the three-point line (55 percent) and has been on target for 23 of 25 free throws.

Southern New Hampshire features sophomore forward Kylie Lorenzen, last year's Rookie of the Year in the conference. She's averaging 15 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 88 percent from the foul line.

The only other double-figure scorer for the Penmen is one of the rotation players who didn't play against Assumption, freshman forward Victoria Dean. She's been outstanding from three, knocking down 16 of 27 (59 percent), and is averaging 10.7 points.

Both teams are among the NE-10 leaders in defense with Bentley second with a 58.9 opponents scoring average and SNHU tied for fourth at 59.6. SNHU is fourth in field goal percentage defense and Bentley is sixth with each keeping their opponents under 37 percent.

Bentley will be back home on Wednesday, taking on St. Michael's.
