Gemma Named NCAA Div. II Championships All-Tournament; Also Adds 3rd All-America Award to List of Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy), who led the Falcons into the national semifinals, has been named to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships All-Tournament Team, which was announced tonight in Indianapolis.

Gemma also collected her third All-America nod of the season as she was named to the Women's Division II Bulletin All-America second team. Previously, she was selected as a first-team All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and was chosen for the Division II Conference Commissioners' Association All-America second team.

Gemma, the only one of the five All-Tournament selections who didn't play in the national championship game, was selected along with two players from undefeated national champion Lubbock Christian (Nicole Hampton and Kelsey Hoppel) and two from Alaska-Anchorage (Megan Mullings, Jessica Madison).

During the Elite Eight March 22-23 in Sioux Falls, S.D., Gemma averaged 20.5 points and eight rebounds while shooting 57 percent overall and 82 percent from the line.

The All-America had her 15th double-double of the season in the quarterfinals, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds while powering Bentley to a 53-52 nail-biting win over Virginia Union.

Gemma followed that by pouring in 25 points, on 10 of 17 shooting, in the Falcons' 67-57 Final Four loss to Lubbock Christian, which went on to capture the national championship with a 78-73 win over Alaska-Anchorage earlier today.

Gemma, the Northeast-10 and D2CCA East Region Player of the Year, finished a record-breaking season with averages of 20.0 points and 9.3 rebounds. She set Bentley single season records for points per game (breaking the mark of 19.5 she set as a sophomore), total points (699) and field goals (251). In addition, her 326 rebounds was the second highest total in more than 40 years of Bentley women's basketball.

Gemma will enter her senior year with 1,558 career points, 12th most in school history, and 805 rebounds, seventh most all-time.

Bentley, which improved on last year's win total by an amazing 18 games, finished the 2015-16 campaign with a sparkling 29-6 record.
