Gemma & Lewis Receive Weekly Awards from Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University All-Conference junior forward Jen Gemma (Milton/ Fontbonne Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Spalding Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season and Falcon freshman guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) has been recognized as the conference's Spalding Rookie of the Week for the second time.

The two helped the 11-2 Falcons to a 2-0 week with wins over the University of Bridgeport, 69-53, and Stonehill College, 80-69.

Gemma put up her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season while averaging 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals during a 2-0 week. She had 21 points and 13 rebounds against Bridgeport and came back with 22 points and 12 boards against Stonehill. Gemma shot 50 percent overall in both contests.

Lewis averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 55 percent overall and 56 percent from three. She filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks against Bridgeport and put up 15 points, seven steals, five assists and four rebounds against Stonehill. During the week, she posted career bests for assists, steals and blocks.

Gemma, a point shy of moving into the top 25 on Bentley's all-time points list, is leading the NE-10 in scoring for the second straight season, averaging 20.5 points along with 10.8 rebounds. Should she maintain that production level, it would be the first 20-10 season in the NE-10 in at least two decades. Gemma's nine double-doubles is tied for the third most nationally in Division II.

Lewis has moved into a tie for the NE-10 lead in steals (30) and is also averaging 7.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. She was previously cited as the NE-10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 16.

Bentley, which has won its last five, returns to action Saturday afternoon at New Haven.
