Green Named NE-10 Spalding Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Spalding Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week following her strong performance in games against Southern New Hampshire University and Stonehill College.

Green became the third member of Bentley's Class of 2018 to receive the honor, following Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School) and Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School). Bennett was recognized Nov. 17 and Smith received the honor in back-to-back weeks in early December.

Green shot 56 percent overall, including 67 percent from three (4-6), while averaging 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 1-1 week. Against Southern New Hampshire, she scored 14 and delivered five assists to help the Falcons to the victory.

Green is the NE-10's highest scoring freshman with her 11.4 average two-tenths of a point better than Pace's Gabriella Rubin. One of two players who has started every game this season for coach Barbara Stevens, she's second on the team in scoring and is the Falcons' best in terms of three-pointers made (44) and three-point accuracy (.407).

Her rookie season has included four games with five three-pointers and the same number with at least 20 points.

Two of Green's teammates were included on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll, sophomore post Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) and senior guard Kelsey Mattice (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS). Gemma filled the stat sheet with 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, three blocks and 2.5 assists a game, and Mattice averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a steal.

Bentley, 11-15 this year after capturing the NCAA Division II national championship last March, finishes its season Tuesday night at Franklin Pierce.
