Battista Recognized by NCAA Div. II Conference Commissioners Association

WALTHAM, Mass. --- Former Bentley University women's basketball standout Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS), previously named the Honda Division II Athlete of the Year and the Capital One Division II Academic All-America of the Year, has been named the women's East Region recipient of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

A male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected from the list of 16 regional winners (eight men, eight women) and will be announced next month.

The commissioners from each Division II basketball region selected the regional winners. The award, sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary achievements of its student-athletes.

Battista, who graduated in May with a 3.96 grade point average as a marketing and liberal studies major, finished her career as Bentley's all-time leading scorer (2,112 points). She played in a school record 135 games during her four years, all but two as a starter, and the much-heralded forward helped the Falcons post a record of 124-11, including 65-2 over her final two seasons and 27-3 in postseason contests.

As a senior, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Player of the Year led Bentley to a perfect 35-0 record and the NCAA Division II national championship. She averaged a career-high 17.4 points, as well as 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals.
