Battista, Brugliera Named to Academic All-Northeast-10 Women’s Basketball Team

WALTHAM, Mass. –Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) and Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg/Wachusett Reg. HS), a pair of sophomore forwards who have helped Bentley University to a pair of conference championships and NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances, have been selected for the 2011-12 Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball team.

The award is the latest in a long line that Battista has received this year for excellence on the court and in the classroom. She was selected as a Division II All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and as a second team Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Battista, the newest member of Bentley's 1,000-point club and only the second to achieve that milestone as a sophomore, was also selected as the Player of the Year in the Northeast-10 and the Daktronics Division II East Region. A dual major (marketing, liberal studies), she led the Falcons in scoring (16.8) and rebounds (7.2), and also found time to record her second consecutive 4.0 semester.

Brugliera, like Battista, has already earned two All-Conference honors, second team in 2011 and third team this past season when she averaged 11 points and six rebounds. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team at both the NCAA Division II East Regional and the Elite Eight, and finished the year with a career scoring average of 13.1.

Brugliera, a marketing major, has been on the President's List twice and the Dean's List once during her first three semesters.

Bentley finished the 2011-12 season with a sensational 31-4 record. The Falcons repeated as Northeast-10 and NCAA Division II East Regional champs, reached the national semifinals for the first time since 2003 and were ranked third in the final USA Today/ESPN Division II national coaches poll.

Joining Battista and Brugliera on the nine-player team were Michelle Lafond (American International), Marielle Giroud (Franklin Pierce), Katie Hart (Le Moyne), Gennifer Roy (Merrimack), Kelly Schatzlein (Merrimack), Megan Olsen (St. Michael's) and Ali Johnson (Saint Rose).

The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives.
