Brennan, Tracey Named Bentley’s Outstanding Senior Athletes

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Former Bentley University basketball standouts Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) and Brian Tracey (Bow Mar, Colo./Heritage HS) were recently named the Outstanding Senior Athletes at Bentley University.

The Bentley women's basketball team returned to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight this past season, making its first trip in eight years.  Had it not been a remarkable final minute of play by Brennan iin her final Dana Center appearance, that very well may not have happened.

Brennan, a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree, put the Falcons on her back and carried them to the regional championship and the ensuing trip to St. Joseph, Mo. for the Elite Eight. She scored the game's final seven points, turning a four-point deficit into a three-point win.  In the midst of that run, with the Falcons down one with 15 seconds left, she came up with a key steal, which she turned into a go-ahead three-point play.

Brennan not only played in every game of her collegiate career, but started every one at the all-important point guard position. She finished her standout career with 1,695 points, best-ever by a Bentley guard and fifth most in the program's storied history.

"Kim's selection as Bentley's Outstanding Female Senior Athlete is another feather in the cap of one of our program's finest student-athletes," said Bentley's Hall of Fame coach Barbara Stevens. "Kim was an outstanding leader at the point guard position for her entire career and this season she led our young team to the Northeast 10 regular season and tournament championships, as well as the Elite Eight."

One of the premier power forwards in Bentley basketball annals, Tracey amassed some impressive numbers during his four seasons wearing a Falcon uniform.  He was a threat to score both inside and beyond the three-point line, and also was a strong rebounder. The six-foot-five Coloradan completed his career ranking 10th in points (1547) and 11th in rebounds (849).

Above and beyond that, Tracey was a winner and it was that quality which likely earned the first-team All-Northeast-10 and All-East Region honoree Bentley's 2010-11 Outstanding Male Senior Athlete award.  During his four seasons, Tracey helped the Falcons win three Northeast-10 regular season championships (including this past season), make two trips to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight (2008, 2010) and reach the Sweet Sixteen all four seasons. The cumulative record of the Falcons during the Tracey era was an impressive 110-23.

As a senior, Tracey put up 17.2 points and eight rebounds a game for the Falcons. He was one of only three players in the 16-team Northeast-10 to amass both 50 three-pointers and 100 made free throws, and became the first Bentley player in more than a decade to lead the team in rebounds three straight seasons.

"Without a doubt, Brian goes down as one of the top forwards to ever play at Bentley," said 20-year head coach Jay Lawson. "He had a unique combination of competitiveness, athleticism, skill and intelligence that allowed him to excel at both ends of the floor. More importantly, Brian represented our school and program in a very positive fashion on and off the court.  His basketball numbers and team success clearly speaks for itself, but his approach to the student-athlete's overall responsibility was outstanding. He's everything we want our graduates to be."
