Bentley Set to Battle Assumption for Berth in Regional Final

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Following Friday night's 75-67 win over C.W. Post, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be seeking its first trip to the NCAA Division II East Region championship game since 2007 when it hosts Assumption College Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Tip-off for the second of two women's semifinals is scheduled for 2:30 pm. The other half of the bracket will have second-seeded Holy Family University facing number six Pace University at noon.

Coach Barbara Stevens' club will be looking to garner a spot in the regional title game for the 17th time in 24 years against an Assumption team that has won 11 of its last 13 games. Most recent was a 74-64 decision over The College of Saint Rose in the first round of the NCAA regional.

Bentley (26-4) took the regular season matchup with Assumption, 67-61 in Worcester on Jan. 15, extending the Falcons' lead in the all-time series to 60-7. The two have met in the NCAAs only once, and that was a 67-58 Greyhound win in the 2008 first round.

As has been the case for the season, Bentley freshmen Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg/Wachusett Reg. HS) and Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) were the Falcons' top scorers in the regular season meeting with the Hounds as they scored 19 and 14 points, respectively. Both came up big down the stretch as Bentley was trying to hold on to a lead that had shrunk from 11 to one point.

In that final 55 seconds, Brugliera had four points, a rebound and an assist, and Battista provided two points, a rebound and a steal.
