Piromalli one-hits St. Michael's during doubleheader split

WALTHAM, Mass. – Riley Piromalli one-hit St. Michael's, and Sabrina Grizzaffi totaled three hits as the Bentley softball team split a Northeast-10 doubleheader against the Purple Knights Sunday afternoon.

Bentley 6, St. Michael's 1

Piromalli allowed just one hit during her 12th complete game of the season to lead the Falcons to a 6-1 victory over the Purple Knights in the first game Sunday.

Piromalli retired the first six St. Michael's batters of the game, and she struck out four overall for the afternoon.

Grizzaffi's leadoff single in the second inning got the Bentley offense going. Katie Welch followed with a single of her own, and then Morgan Fraitzl delivered a base hit that allowed Grizzaffi to score from second base.

Ella Bunovsky loaded the bases by reaching on an infield single, and Kylee Amato plated Welch with an opposite-field single.

The Falcons tacked on four runs in the fourth inning. Bentley loaded the bases with nobody out after Samantha Hess, Amato, and Jacqueline Cupoli each reached base with singles.

Jordan Krause knocked in a run, Hailey Feiler drew a bases-loaded walk, and Grizzaffi smacked a two-run single.

Bentley 2, St. Michael's 3

The Falcons pushed two runs across the plate in the fourth inning, but that was the only frame in which Bentley scored as it came up short against St. Michael's, 3-2.

Bentley entered the home half of the fourth inning in a 1-0 deficit, but Cupoli got the offense started with a one-out double. Krause immediately followed with a double of her own, allowing Cupoli to easily score Bentley's first run.

The next two batters reached to load the bases, and Krause tagged up and scored from third base on Welch's fly-out.

The Purple Knights reclaimed the read with two runs in the sixth inning, but the Falcons had a good opportunity to respond in the bottom of the frame. Feiler and Grizzaffi reached base with consecutive hits, and they were both in scoring position with one out on the board. However, the Falcons were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

Bentley's 2024 home final is Thursday, April 25, with a doubleheader against Saint Roster starting at 2:30 p.m.
