Krause’s Walk Off Homer Highlights Bentley’s Sweep of Southern Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass. – Jordan Krause hit a walk off home run in game one to highlight Bentley's sweep of Southern Connecticut at home on Sunday afternoon.

Bentley 2, Southern Connecticut 1 (8 innings)

With the Falcons and Owls tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Krause led off the inning and hit a walk off bomb to left field that landed in the trees well beyond the fence.

It was her third homer of the season and 14th of her career for the outfielder from San Pedro, California, who already holds the program record for home runs.

Riley Piromalli pitched eight strong innings to earn her 7th win of the season. She struck out seven and allowed just the one run.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Krause drove in Kylee Amato from third with a sacrifice.

Amato, who led off the inning with a double, went 2-3 and a walk in game one.

The Owls scored in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1 and that was the last time either team scored until Krause's homer in the extra innings.

The Falcons did threaten in the bottom of the 7th with the potential winning run on 2nd base, but the Owls escaped the jam to send the game to extra innings.

Bentley 4, Southern Connecticut 3

The Falcons completed the sweep in game two for its fourth win in five games. They improved their NE10 record to 5-1 and overall mark to 13-11.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th they came up with clutch hits with two outs to take the lead.

Jess Morrison singled to right to drive in Katie Welch from third to tie the game 3-3. The next batter, Amato, reached out a fielder's choice and Gabriella Longo scored from third to give the Falcons a 4-3 advantage.

The Owls threatened in the top of the 6th with the first two batters reaching base, but Falcons starter Payton Doiron got out of the jam by retiring the next three hitters. She retired the Owls in order in the top of the 7th to secure the 4-3 victory for Bentley.

Doiron struck out five and allowed just three hits to earn her fifth win of the season. She tossed her second complete game of the season.

The Falcons will next take on Assumption on Tuesday afternoon for the first of four straight doubleheaders on the road.
