Falcons drop two to Mercy in home-opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley softball team began its 2024 home schedule with a couple of losses against Mercy Sunday afternoon. The Falcons dropped the first game in six innings, 9-1, and they fell in the second game, 9-3.

Hailey Feiler and Samantha Hess both went 2-for-3 at the plate in the first game. The Falcons scored their lone run in the second inning. Hess hit a one-out single, and she moved into scoring position on a passed ball. From there, Morgan Fraitzl delivered an RBI single.

In the second game, Jordan Krause had a two-hit performance by going 2-for-3. Bentley scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening stanza. Hess hit a one-out single, and she moved to third base when Krause ripped to a double to center field. Feiler – the next batter – hit into a groundout that allowed Hess to easily score.

The Falcons tacked on another run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Ella Bunovsky hit a leadoff single, and she moved into scoring position when Kylee Amato laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bunovsky moved up one more base when Hess grounded out, and she scored on a passed ball.

The Mustangs broke through in the fourth inning, rallying for five runs in the frame.

Bentley begins its Northeast-10 slate Saturday, March 30, when the Falcons head to Manchester to take on Southern New Hampshire for a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
