Softball Sweeps Northern State and Pitt.-Johnstown on Final Day in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Bentley softball team swept Northern State and Pitt.-Johnstown on Friday by scores of 3-2 and 11-0 on its final day at the Spring Games. They went 7-3 overall during their stay in the Sunshine State.

 

Bentley 3, Northern State 2

Payton Doiron pitched four strong innings for the win and Riley Piromalli tossed three scoreless innings for the save as the Falcons defeated Northern State 3-2.

The Falcons scored twice in the first inning as the first six hitters reached base. Kylee Amato led off with a walk and Sabrina Grizzaffi singled. Jordan Krause then drove in Amato with an RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 lead. Hailey Feiler then singled to right to drive in Grizzaffi.

Bentley made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth, when with the bases loaded Grizzaffi was hit by a pitch to score Samantha Hess from third.

Doiron's line was four innings, with just one run allowed on six hits. Piromalli finished the game off over the final three innings and allowed just two hits.

 

Bentley 11, Pitt.-Johnstown 0 (5 innings)

Freshman Breelin McDougal pitched a five inning shutout to earn her first NCAA win, in what was her first start. She struck out four and allowed just three hits.

Katie Welch, Krause and Feiler each had two RBI. Krause reached base in all three of her at bats with two hits and one walk. Grizzaffi went 2-3 with an RBI.

The Falcons did all of their damage in the 3rd and 4th innings with five and six runs, respectively.
