Softball Defeats D’Youville, Falls to Purdue Northwest in 10 Innings

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Bentley defeated D'Youville 12-6 in its first game but fell to Purdue Northwest 1-0 in ten innings in its second game on day four of its Florida trip.

 

Bentley 12, D'Youville 6

The Falcons scored a season-high 12 runs and recorded a season-high 18 hits in beating D'Youville in their first game of the day. Ella Bunovsky, Jordan Krause and Sabrina Grizzaffi each had three hits and Samantha Hess and Jacqueline Cupoli each had two.

Bunovsky, Krause and Kylee Amato each had two RBI.

The Falcons actually trailed 4-0 but exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the 4th.

Amato had a two run double to drive in the first runs. Bunovsky drove in a run with a ground out,  Saunders singled to drive in Amato and Krause doubled to drive in Saunders for a 5-4 lead.

Bentley then recorded four straight hits, the last three of which were RBI singles by Cupoli, Grizzaffi and Hess.

They added four more runs in the bottom of the 6th, including an RBI double by Krause.

Payton Doiron earned the win, her second of the season, and Riley Piromalli pitched the final three innings.

 

Purdue Northwest 1, Bentley 0 (10 innings)

Piromalli came back and pitched into the 10th inning against the Pride. She faced 33 batters, struck out seven and allowed just three hits and one walk.

PNW finally scratched across a run in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice bunt by Allison Arnold scored Darcy Barkauska from third.
