Doiron Pitches No-Hitter, Krause Ties Home Run Record & Bentley Shuts Out Saint Rose Twice

ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior right-hander Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS) pitched a five-inning no-hitter in game one and sophomore left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) tied the program's career home run record as Bentley University swept The College of Saint Rose, 8-0 (5 innings) and 2-0, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Sunday afternoon at Cathy Haker Field.

Doiron retired 15 of the 16 batters she faced during her masterpiece and struck out nine, one shy of her career best. The only baserunner came at the start of the third when sophomore second baseman Madi Puppolo (Adams) was hit by a pitch.

Krause accounted for all the scoring in game two when she hit a two-run blast in the first inning. It was her fifth of the season and ninth career, matching the Bentley record set by Kaileen Cain last year.

In the nightcap, Bentley was threatened in the bottom of the seventh as two singles and a wild pitch resulted in Golden Knights on second and third with two out. However, sophomore Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) completed her four-hit shutout by getting sophomore Isabella Milazzo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) to fly out to right to end the game. If not tracked down by junior Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels), it certainly would have tied the game.

Fink, who improved to 6-1 on the season, fanned five and did not issue a walk.

Bentley's offense in the opener came early with the Falcons putting up six runs in the first and two in the second. The Falcons' nine hits included three by Fink in her role as the designated player.

Graduate catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS), Bentley's all-time leader in RBI, drove in the first run with a single to left. Fink followed with a two-run single to right and senior second baseman Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS) had a sacrifice fly. Amato made it a 6-0 game with a two-run triple to left.

Senior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) completed the game's scoring with a two-run single in the second.

Bentley, with the sweep in its conference opener, improved to 11-7 overall. Saint Rose dropped to 5-12 overall and 0-2 NE10.

The Falcons will play on their brand new field for the first time on Monday when they host a twinbill against Le Moyne College at noon. The games were scheduled to be played in New York but have been moved due to potential inclement weather.
