Krause Homers Twice as Bentley Downs Slippery Rock, 13-1, in Finale of Florida Trip

LEESBURG, Fla. – Bentley University sophomore left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) homered twice, tying the school record for a game, and drove in five runs as the Falcons pounded Slippery Rock University, 13-1, in non-conference softball on the Sleepy Hollow Field Friday.

The win completed a 4-6 trip to the Sunshine State for the 9-7 Falcons. Earlier in the day, Bentley fell to Hillsdale College, 3-1.

It was quite a game for Krause, who also matched the Bentley single game record for total bases with 10. Her three hits in five at bats also included a double and she also scored three times. Her career home run count climbed to eight, one shy of the school record.

Krause, who raised her average to a sizzling .491, gave Bentley a 2-0 lead with a first-inning home run to center. She doubled to center in the fifth and put the cap on a big offensive day for the Falcons with a three-run blast to center in the seventh.

Krause leads the Northeast-10 in hits, doubles and home runs, is second in total bases and is third in slugging.

Bentley's 15-hit attack also included three from senior infielder Katherine Noftall (Ipswich/Ipswich HS) and two apiece from junior right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) and senior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS). Petow also scored three times and picked up two RBI.

The offense supported the pitching of sophomore Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS), who improved to 5-1, and junior Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS). Fink allowed six hits and one run in five innings and Doiron fanned six of the seven batters she faced.

In the earlier game, sophomore righty Joni Russell (Cable, Ohio) pitched Hillsdale (11-11) to the win as she struck out four and authored a three-hitter. Her teammates struck for two runs in the top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.

Bentley's only run was scored in the first. Senior third baseman Jess Trahan (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack HS), Krause doubled her to third and graduate catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS), number one in Falcon history in career RBI, hit a sacrifice fly.

Bentley is scheduled to make a trip to New York next weekend for conference doubleheaders at Le Moyne College and the College of Saint Rose.
