Cain Selected for CoSIDA Academic All-America® Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University third baseman and captain Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) has been voted to the CoSIDA NCAA Division II Academic All-America® softball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Cain becomes the Bentley's 89th Academic All-America selection and the third to earn the honor this year. She's the first Falcon softball player to receive the prestigious recognition since 1994.

Cain, in her second Bentley season, had an outstanding year at the plate, one that culminated with a .354 batting average, a school record eight home runs, 34 RBI and an .899 slugging percentage. Her 79 total bases was the third most by a Falcon all-time.

"Kaileen is a passionate, committed, and determined student-athlete who strived to be the best she can be every day," said her coach, Terry A. McDonough. "She always looked to improve and be at the top of her game. Her enthusiasm brought a lot of energy to the team and to the staff.  Every coach loves to see hard work, passion and commitment. She provided all of that plus the understanding that the only way you get better is by working for it as nothing is given to you.

Cain, whose first Bentley season was curtailed by injury after three games, finished her career as the program's career home run hitter with nine. Amazingly, the Caldwell University transfer achieved the milestone in just 44 games as a Falcon.

"Kaileen was a force for Bentley University softball," continued McDonough. "Her stats say a lot about her, but she was someone every coach would love to have on their team. She not only worked hard herself, but she worked her teammates just as hard.  Kaileen was able to balance the academic world with an outstanding GPA while taking care of business on the field. From day one at practice in the fall, throughout the trips to Florida and during our spring season, Kaileen was a constant threat to her opponents. She is a top-notch person and student-athlete."

Cain, whose 19 career home runs included ten as a Cougar, previously earned Academic All-America honors in 2019 while playing at Caldwell. She was a Division III third team selection as a designated hitter.

As a graduate student at Bentley, Cain has achieved a 3.85 grade point average while working on her MBA. At Caldwell, she majored in financial economics and earned a 3.93 GPA.

Bentley set a program record for wins this spring, finishing at 24-19 overall.
