Bentley Sweeps Southern New Hampshire on the Road, 6-2 and 3-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) drove in four runs with a home run and two doubles as Bentley University captured game one of its Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire Saturday morning, 6-2.

Bentley completed a sweep of the twinbill by riding the shutout pitching of freshman Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) and sophomore Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS) to a 3-0 game two win.

Mankins led off the second inning of the opener with a double and scored on a two-out single to left by junior shortstop Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS)

The Falcons made it a 5-0 game with four runs in the third. Senior catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore,/Tualatin HS) had an RBI single and Mankins homered to left, with graduate third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) and Hillier scoring on her sixth career round tripper.

After the Penmen scored twice in the fifth, Bentley picked up an insurance run in the seventh and again Mankins was involved. Hillier walked, took second on a ground out and scored on Mankins' double to left center.

Senior right-hander Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) earned her eighth win of the season for the Falcons. She pitched the first five, allowing three hits and two unearned runs while striking out six. Doiron came on for the six-out save and retired struck out four of the seven batters she faced.

In game two, Fink gave up four hits in five innings and Doiron allowed two in the final two frames with each striking out two and neither issuing a walk. Fink stranded a runner on third in three of the first four innings.

The Bentley pitching staff received the only offensive support they would need in the second. Freshman designated player Katie Welch (Monroe, Conn./Masuk HS) walked and junior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) followed with a home run to left, her second of the season.

In the third, a bases-loaded single by Cain scored freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) and made it a 3-0 game.

Bentley totaled seven hits, including three by sophomore right fielder Kaylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels).

Bentley improved to 15-13 overall and 5-7 conference while SNHU dropped to 14-16 (8-6 NE10).

The Falcons' eight-game homestand will continue with a doubleheader at Pace University Tuesday.
