Saint Anselm Sweeps Bentley in NE10 Softball Action, 3-0 and 4-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Bentley University Falcons staged a late comeback in game two but came up short in the end as Saint Anselm College completed a sweep in Northeast-10 Conference softball, 3-0 and 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the South Athletic Fields.

In game two, the Hawks (18-11, 11-3 NE10) took an early lead with two runs in the first and two more in the second. All four were unearned as the Falcons made five errors in the opening innings.

Bentley's first run of the day came in the fourth. Junior center fielder Samantha Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) led off with a double to left, advanced on a ground out and scored on a ground out by graduate third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppage HS).

The Falcons made it a one-run game in the sixth after the inning opened on singles by sophomore right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) and freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS). After a sacrifice and a fielders' choice, Cain drove in two more with a double to left center.

Saint Anselm managed only six hits off freshman Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) while Bentley was limited to four by freshman righty Sophia Dipippo (Cranston, R.I.).

In the opener, all the scoring came via the long ball. Senior Bre Klaiber (Ironton, Ohio) and junior Kylie Fitzpatrick (Danville, N.H.) went back-to-back in the fourth and sophomore Gracie O'Hara (Shrewsbury, Mass.) homered in the fifth to make it a 3-0 game.

Sophomore righty Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) authored the six-hit shutout to improve to 14-2 on the season. She walked two and fanned two.

Falcons with two hits on the day were Amato and Krause.

Bentley, which slipped back to .500 at 13-13 (3-7 NE10) will be back in Manchester Saturday for a noon doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire.
