Franklin Pierce Sweeps Bentley, 6-2 & 5-1; Krause Has 4 Hits for Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore catcher Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro) was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the opener and freshman right fielder Bella Williams (Phoenix, Ariz.) was 3-for-4 with four RBI in game two as Franklin Pierce University took two from Bentley University, 6-2 and 5-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Sunday on the Bentley softball field.

Bentley (11-11, 1-5 NE10) was led by freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Petro HS), who had four hits in the twinbill, including three in game two, to elevate her average to .429.

Both games were close until the Ravens (19-1, 7-1 NE10) opened them up late. The Ravens scored three times in the seventh of game one to extend a one-run lead to four. The second game, which was tied 1-1 after four, saw the visitors score twice in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

The Pierce seventh in game one included an RBI triple by Cangiano and a sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Haley Bigwood (Athol).

For Bentley, junior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) had an RBI single in the fifth and senior catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) had an RBI double in the sixth.

Game two saw the Ravens take a 3-1 lead on a two-run single by Williams in the fifth. She added insurance in the seventh with her triple to left plating two more runs.

Bentley's only run came in the third with Petow scoring on an attempted double steal.

Senior Abbey Primavera (Spring Hill, Fla.)  and sophomore Sabrina Gonzalez (Chandler, Ariz.) shared pitching duties for Franklin Pierce with both improving to 8-0 on the season.

Bentley remains at home for a Tuesday doubleheader against American International. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
