Cain Walk-Off Gives Bentley Game 1 Win; Falcons’ 8-Game Win Streak Halted in Nightcap

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student and third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to give Bentley University a 3-2 game-one victory over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference softball Sunday afternoon on the Bentley softball field. It was her fifth of the season, tying the program's single season record.

Saint Rose came back to take the nightcap 5-2 with the loss ending Bentley's eight-game winning streak.

Cain's round tripper, which came with the count full, matched the Bentley record set by Laurie Frasier in 1993.

Cain was also involved in Bentley's two-run first. Freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) led off the game with a walk and scored on the Golden Knights' third passed ball of the inning. Junior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) also walked and she scored on a Cain two-out triple to left center.

Saint Rose evened the game on a two-run two-out triple by sophomore first baseman Madison Chandler (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) in the third.

Senior Elise Pereira (Plainville/King Philip Reg. HS) improved to 6-2 on the season with a complete game effort. She allowed four hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out seven.

In game two, Saint Rose scored three in the third and two in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. Chandler, just as she did in the first game, had a two-run triple in the third and freshman third baseman Emma Schaub (Scotia, N.Y.) had a two-run homer in the sixth.

Mankins had an RBI single in the sixth and Krause had a sacrifice fly in the seventh to account for the Falcons' runs.

Bentley (11-7, 1-1 NE10) remains at home to host Le Moyne in a doubleheader Wednesday at 3:00.
