Bentley Splits Final 2 in Florida with Krause & Petow Sparking Falcons to 13-7 Win over Lynn

COCOA, Fla. – Freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro GS) and junior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) each scored three runs as the Bentley University softball team completed the Florida Tech Invitational with a 13-7 win over Lynn University Sunday afternoon.

The victory, which boosted the Falcons to 2-4, followed a 5-4 10-inning loss to Florida Tech in the first game of the day.

Against Lynn, Bentley (4-2) erupted for five runs in the third to take a 7-1 lead. Graduate third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) had an RBI single, sophomore designated player Gabriella Longo (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) and freshman second baseman Hannah Smith (Los Alamitos, Calif./St. Joseph HS) each drew bases loaded walks, and sophomore shortstop Sabrina Grizzaffi (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield HS) had a two-run single.

Smith made it a three RBI afternoon and a 9-4 game with a two-run single to left center in the fourth. In the fifth, Cain slugged her third home run of the weekend as the lead grew to 12-4. Sophomore first baseman Morgan Fraitzl (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) drove in the final run with a sixth-inning single.

Bentley's 15 hits included three apiece from Krause and senior catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) and two each for Petow, Cain and Grizzaffi.

Senior right-hander Elisa Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) earned her first save of the season with three innings of one-run relief.

In the bottom of the tenth against Florida Tech, the Panthers scored twice to gain the victory. After starting the inning with a runner on second,  senior center fielder Cheyanne Nelson (Snohomish, Wash.) had a two-out RBI double to left center to tie the game and scored the game-winner on a single to center by senior second baseman Chloe French (Deland, Fla.).

Bentley had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the tenth. Petow had an infield single to drive in sophomore right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) with the go-ahead run.

Bentley's eight hits in the game included three from junior second baseman Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS).

Highlights of the opening weekend included 10 RBI in six games by Cain and averages of .429 for Krause and .421 for Petow.

Bentley will return to Florida for 10 games March 13-18.
